Experienced Utility Surveyor

Geotechnical Engineering Ltd is the largest independent ground investigation contractor in the UK with a track record of delivering specialist preconstruction services for the past 60 years. Based in Gloucester and currently employing around 150 people, we are a progressive, energetic and industry leading business with a renowned reputation for technical innovation and excellence in Health and Safety. Our extensive Client base ranges from private individuals requiring bespoke services or advice, through to large multidisciplinary consultants and main contractors who require large scale, complex ground investigations as part of nationally significant construction schemes.

The foundations of our organisation are built upon several highly effective operational teams, who work closely together, to deliver an unrivalled service to our Clients. Our dedicated teams of utility surveyors, drillers, engineers, and a geotechnical laboratory staff all play a vital role in ensuring that these services are delivered safely, to a high technical standard, on budget and on time.  We are a progressive, well-equipped company with a reputation for our innovative approach to all aspects of our work and willingness to invest in our people, equipment, and new techniques.

Due to a significant increase in workload and ambitious plans to expand and grow the team, we are recruiting for Utility Surveyors with between one- and three-years’ experience to join our survey team. The appointed surveyors will have an understanding and experience in accepted utility mapping practices and will be qualified and proficient in the use of Radio detection RD4000 or RD8000 tracing equipment and GPR systems such as MALA or IDS. They will have a strong health and safety culture with experience of operating within documented safe systems of work, be ambitious, enthusiastic, have good communication skills, be flexible and be able to work independently or part of a team, to tight deadlines.

Our business and reputation are built on our commitment, mutual trust, and organisational values. A key part of any role within the business is a willingness to embrace that ethos and contribute safely and positively to a culture of change and improvement; there’s always a better way. Our contracts take us across the UK, working on highways, reservoirs, railways, forecourts, oil refineries, electrical substations, and construction sites.

We are looking for ambitious, hardworking, dedicated individuals, with great team-work ethic and communication skills. Previous experience of working within a construction related discipline would be beneficial, but not essential. You will need to be adaptable, have the desire to progress to more senior roles within the business and the ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure. Projects frequently require overnight stays, plus weekend and / or night working.

In return, we can offer a highly attractive package consisting of:

  • A diverse and exciting site-based role with opportunity to work remotely from home.
  • Desirable basic salary (of between £20,000 and £26,000).
  • Professional development opportunities including enrolment on relevant vocational courses to obtain industry recognised qualifications.
  • Excellent career prospects and all necessary training including Client specific qualifications such as PTS, BESC and SPA for long term career progression.
  • Fully structured internal training programme.
  • A company vehicle.
  • Generous overtime rates for night-time / weekend working.
  • Overnight subsistence allowances for working away from home.
